Improving your home value
Soft flooring
Comfortable soft flooring is resilient, durable, easy-to-install and maintain. Today’s “soft flooring” comes in a wide array of colors, patterns and sizes. These new choices are as affordable and easy-care as traditional linoleum, with new styles and comfort. Low-cost flooring is a home investment that will return its value when you resell.

Linoleum is free of artificial ingredients so it’s eco-friendly. The linseed-oil base gives it natural antibacterial properties. Used in kitchens and bathrooms, linoleum comes in tiles or sheets.

Cork brings the natural appeal of wood but is soft underfoot and insulates against noise and cold. Used in kitchens, living rooms, exercise or music rooms, cork comes in tiles or planks.

Rubber is hardworking flooring that withstands spilled household cleaners. The raised texture surface is slip-resistant, but harder to clean than a smooth-surfaced floor. Tiles are most often used in utility rooms, game rooms and entryways.

Vinyl has a wide price range; choose a low-end vinyl and expect a short life span. Many style options, e.g., make vinyl look like wood by printing photos of the real thing on the surface. Vinyl comes in tiles, strips and sheets and is used in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms and entryways.

Leather is warm and luxurious, however it does not hold up against high moisture or direct sunlight. Used in libraries, dens or home theaters, leather comes in tiles and is among the most expensive soft floorings.

Bright Idea
nail polish remover
Nail polish remover has many uses at home, besides removing nail polish.

1. Remove scuffmarks on vinyl and tile floors with a dab of nail polish remover.

2. Wash away marker stains from your skin, glass, stainless steel and other appliances. Use a small amount on a cloth and gently work out stain.

3. Stuck with superglue? Don’t panic if your fingers get stuck together. Use a cotton ball or cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover to gently work them apart.

4. After using nail polish remover, clean the surface where it was used and also your skin.

Home Reminder   pest control
Ants, termites, cockroaches and other critters all play important roles in the environment. However, when these creatures enter our homes, they become pests that can potentially threaten our health and our property. If you do not have regular pest control, check indoors and out for signs of termites or other bug problems. Watch for signs, such as tunnels or dirt bridges outside. Inside, look carefully for signs of pest infestation in walls, furniture, basements and attics. If you find evidence of bugs, call a professional exterminator.
